世界で注目すべきデジタル系プロデューサー／クリエーター50人に小島秀夫氏や水口哲也氏が選ばれる

　全米プロデューサー組合（PGA／Producer Guild of America）が、アニメ、ブロードバンド、DVD、ゲーム、ITV、モバイル、映像効果（visual effects)といったデジタルエンターテイメント業界において革新的な働きをしているプロデューサーおよびクリエーターを50人選び、“New Media Producers and Innovators”として表彰する中に、日本人として「METAL GEAR SOLID」シリーズの小島秀夫監督のほかに、キューエンターテインメントの代表取締役CCOでありゲームクリエーターの水口哲也氏が選ばれた。

　全米プロデューサー組合の前身は1950年に設立されたThe Screen Producers Guildで、1957年に設立されたThe Television Producers Guildと、1962年に合併し、The Producers Guild of Americaが設立されている。1990年、アカデミー賞前哨戦の中でも本番への直結度が特に高い、米4大映画組合賞の1つPGA賞（Producers Guild Awards=製作者組合賞）を開始する（過去12年で、PGA賞を受賞し、オスカーのBest Picture賞にも輝いた作品が9作品というかなりの高確率となっている）。2001年、The American Association of Producers（1983年設立）も取り込み、PGAが完全に全米プロデューサーの代表組織となる。2002年、同組織内に、ゲームやWeb関連等、デジタル・New mediaに携わるプロデューサーが属するNew Media委員会設立。現在、映画・TV・その他新しいメディア業界から参加しているプロデューサーの総計は3100人を超え、数年内には1万人を超すと見られ、エンターテイメント業界で強い影響力を持つ。スピルバーグやジョージルーカスも所属している。

　今年が第1回目となるこの結果は、10月19日（現地時間）に発売されるThe Hollywood Reporter（発行元： Hollywood Reporter）の特別号Producers Guild of America's “Digital 50”に掲載されている。

　今回選出された50人の中には、「ザ・シムス」のプロデューサー＆クリエーターであるWill Wright氏や「スター・ウォーズ」の視覚効果を手がけてきたDennis Muren氏、「Google」の創始者であるLarry Page氏＆Sergei Brin氏や、「YouTube」の創始者であるChad Hurley氏＆Chris Chen氏などの顔も見られる。

　ゲーム分野では小島氏や水口氏を含め9人が選ばれており、日本人としては他にも「脳を鍛える大人のDSトレーニング」を監修した東北大学未来科学技術共同研究センターの川島隆太教授なども選出されている。

　今回、受賞したキューエンターテインメントの水口哲也は以下のようなコメントを寄せてくれている。

　「今回、ハリウッドのプロデューサー陣をはじめ、エンタテインメントの世界で大きな実績を築いてきた方々が、僕らの活動をこのような形で評価してくれたことに、大きな喜びと、未来へのエールを感じています。今後も世界に向けて新たなエンタテインメントを創造し続けていきたいと思います」（水口氏）
