National Geagraphincが、写真コンテスト「2016 National Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year」の結果を発表しました。入賞作品はどれも目を見張るものばかりです。
グランプリ・アクション部門1位「Sardine Run」Greg Lecoeur/2016 National Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year
数千の応募作の中からグランプリに輝いたのは、イワシの群れと、それを食べようとするイルカや海鳥をとらえた「Sardine Run」。アクション部門1位にもなっています。フランスのGreg Lecoeurさんが2015年6月に南アフリカで撮影したものです。「イワシが南アフリカのワイルドコーストを移動する際、数百万匹がイルカや海鳥、サメ、クジラ、ペンギン、カジキ、アシカなどの捕食者の餌食になる。狩りは、ベイトボール（魚がつくる球形の群れ）を作って水面に追いやる特別なハンティング技術を発達させたイルカから始まる」（Greg Lecoeurさん）
「動物ポートレート」部門で1位になったのは、インドのVarun Adityaさんによる霧深い森の中のヘビの写真、「環境問題」部門1位はロシアのVadim Balakinさんがノルウェーで撮影した死んだシロクマの写真、「風景」部門1位はオランダのJacob Kapeteinさんによる、川の中のブナの木の写真となっています。
